The Beguiling Bettie Page

Included here is but a small sampling of Bettie Page photographs that remain as proof of her permanent place as an icon and according to Playboy "the Queen of Pin-ups...the model of the century." The three photos immediately below are some of my favorites among many and display the nonchalance (but not naïveté) and bawdy enthusiasm she had for her modeling.

  1. Hey Scott. Wow! What stunning pictures of her. She's truly a legend and icon. She will be sorely missed. I loved those pictures of her. It doesn't get much better than Bettie. Cheers!

  2. i don't know how i missed the news of her death. sigh. but i guess finding out via your tribute is better anyway.

    my favorite bettie quote:

"I was not trying to be shocking, or to be a pioneer. I wasn't trying to change society, or to be ahead of my time. I didn't think of myself as liberated, and I don`t believe that I did anything important. I was just myself. I didn't know any other way to be, or any other way to live."

  5. Hey Cassie- Sorry ya had to hear about her passing in blog format, but at least there's an interesting mélange of visuals to accompany the news. The Bettie Page quote you included is golden. What a woman with an utterly charming and refreshing lack of pretension.

  7. My wife cried the day Bettie died. Being from Nashville, we have a special place in our hearts for her. The first 3 images in this stream are great. Very few color images of her exist. Great to see.

    Great post.

    RIP Bettie.
