Man of the East (1972)

Man of the East (1972)
aka E poi lo chiamarono il magnifico

Written and directed by Enzo Barboni, Man of the East is a thoroughly entertaining comedic Euro-western. Much location filming was completed in Plitvice, Yugoslavia.

Terence Hill stars as an East Coast dandy lad who moves to his father's Wild West homestead at the request of his will. This fish out of water has three of his deceased Papa's rough and tumble pals to help navigate around spots such as the saloon and the wilderness. Although the story and characters have no connection, this film is sometimes described as a third in the Trinity series, but only shares a director/writer and a leading man.

Sin in the Suburbs (1964)

Joe Sarno was a pioneer and prolific purveyour of sexploitation and adult films. Sin in the Suburbs (1964) is an early standout in the genre of "adult" films. It presents a more intelligent and less a "nudie" film than initial appearance might indicate.

The story includes a teenage daughter who discovers her mother is having an affair and a salacious suburban sex club. While the film lavishes on period kitschy furnishings and decor, the sex club scenes bring Eyes Wide Shut to mind. Also notable is the effective editing.

Altered States (1980)

Ken Russell's 1980 film Altered States was adapted from the only novel written by Paddy Chayefsky. Both the film and source novel reference/"borrow" John C. Lilly's research into sensory deprivation and the influence of psychoactive drugs on those involved while inside isolation tanks. Even though the film's special effects have not aged well and it tends to get bogged down in pretentiousness at times, some of the visuals are suitably hallucinatory. This was William Hurt's screen debut.

The Best of Benny Hill (1974)

Since I was recently opining that it had been far too long since I'd watched a Benny Hill episode, presented below is The Best of Benny Hill (1974). It's a compilation of sketches from the 1969-1973 seasons of the Thames Television show.
