Cronenberg on Cronenberg - 2013 Interview

Canadian director and favorite of mine, David Cronenberg speaks here in footage on 3sat (a public, advertising-free, television network in Central Europe that broadcasts in German) from 2013. He recounts his life and his progress as a film maker in a great interview that is both extensive in scope but very laid back in questioning, with much time allowed for him to expand on his answers.  

Rod Serling Interviews from 1959 and 1970

In commemoration of the Twilight Zone's 50th anniversary, I'm highlighting the man behind the show with these two Rod Serling interviews from 1959 and 1970. CBS first aired the show on October 2, 1959 and it ran for five seasons/156 episodes with Mr. Serling writing nearly 100 of them. An insightful, creative and often righteously angry man; he created an influential legacy with the original Twilight Zone programs still drawing in fans and accolades all these years later.

Although I only viewed the original Twilight Zone episodes in syndicated re-runs, I do have very hazy memories of catching the Night Gallery during it's original run. Still enjoy both series and get excited every time a three day weekend provides a Twilight Zone marathon.

Butthole Surfers – mid 1980s – interviews/performances

A musical favorite of mine since first hearing their instantly addictive, hardcore/dark psychedelia around 1986. The Butthole Surfers always deliver the artistic and entertainment goods that us weirdos are hungry for. The reunited 80s lineup (Gibby Haynes, Paul Leary, Jeff Pinkus, King Coffey and Teresa Taylor) returns to Boston with a show at the Paradise this Wednesday - September 30 and as a salute I've dug up this earlier MySpace blog full of vintage clips from the Butthole Surfers.


The following two clips are from a NYC cable access show in 1984, I think that's the year. Captures the band with the double drummer set-up that really is a special element of their sound. The tribal, pulsating beat matches perfectly with the acid soaked guitar skronk Paul Leary serves with Gibby Haynes howling goodness.
